^ Well said!
I liked the Dawn of the Dead remake, F13 remake, MBV remake and the list goes on....
My opinion may be moot, but I won't condemn anyone else for their moot either.

I loved the Dawn of The Dead remake also. I guess when they take characters I really love (Michael, Jason etc) and "try" to make "hip" versions of movies that were not made too long ago it pisses me off. I do not think any less of those that like F13 remake. It made me want to scream when I hear someone saying it's better than the original which I'm sure there's at least one remake that is probably better than the original (though I do not think I've seen one yet.....perhaps Gremlins2! )

I really just think that is a stretch to call it that. I mean the source material is vaguly close at best....

I certainly wouldn't call it a remake! Have you seen the source material? I watched the little docu they did on it on the DVD and it showed alot of scenes from the source material. It has nothing to do with Antartica, nothing to do with the military, nothing to do with a viciously multiplying creature that copys people, and the "thing" resembles nothing close to John Carpenters vision. Really to say it is a remake is to slight John Carpenter completly. The idea may be there, but they are deffinatly 2 diffrent films totally. That would be like saying all vampire movies are a remake of Nosferatu!! I really just son't see it. Best I could tell, the only reason it is called a remake is because he had to option rights on the original.

And I think the main difference the the creature is so different between the two is 30 years of advances in the field of special effects and make-ups. And I am not going to say that you are wrong because I see the points that you are making. However, by the same logic we can no longer call the new versions of Texas Chainsaw, The Fly, or Dawn of the Dead remakes. So, do we just stick with the lame term "reimagining"?

"reimagining" is definitely the lame term I have been using lately as I cannot bear to even call some of them remakes! Ken and I went to see Watchmen in Imax yesterday and let me just say WOW as I did about 6 or 7 times while watching this film. Simply amazing. It's about time!

As lame as the term is, yes because there is really just one central idea and that is it. Nothing more, nothing less. Plus it would most likley get the point clearer. When I think remake, I think same movie just with a few diferances. Reimagining I know I am seeing a movie that has the inspiration there, but is ultimatly that directors version. Lets you have a better idea of what to expect. I think that is what saved RZ Halloween for me.
